Job Description:
Port Blakely is looking for a full-time Silviculture Forester to
join our team based in Tumwater, Washington. The Silviculture
Forester is responsible for administering silvicultural activities
throughout the Port Blakely ownership in both Washington and
Oregon, ensuring the value growth of the company by establishing
vigorous young forests. You will work with the Silviculture Manager
and contractors to plan, permit, and carry out spray and fertilizer
projects, reforestation efforts, hardwood slashing, survival
surveys, and Pre-Commercial Thinning operations in a hands-on
supervisory manner. Flexibility with logistics and planning is key
in this role. Variability of the weather and contractor
availability require flexible plans and quick decision-making when
conditions change.As part of our Resources Team, you will report to
the Silviculture Manager. This role primarily works out of our
office in Tumwater, Washington, with some travel to Oregon, and
spends a good amount of time in the field.About Us

and New Zealand.What you'll do:
- Model and encourage safe work practices.
- Coordinate contractors and ensure contract compliance with a
variety of contractors and different treatments including planting,
spraying, thinning, hardwood slashing.
- Assist with permitting prior to spray projects
- Administer reforestation logistics with seedling distribution,
plantation monitoring and maintenance, seedling survival surveys,
and seed orchard work.
- Meet with our neighbors to help them understand our forestry
operations and build community relationships.
- Ensure conformance of our commitments to the Sustainable
Forestry Initiative, and internal and regulatory best management
practices.
- Assist with effective administration of internal business
functions, including contracts, accounts payable, data entry of all
silviculture treatments, and budget development for the
silvicultural function.
- Occasionally travel for training, meetings, and conferences in
the Pacific Northwest,
- Spend time in the field in Washington and occasionally Oregon
to manage planting, PCT, and other silviculture projects.
- Maintain readiness and assist with fire response during fire
season.We'd love to hear from people with:
- 2+ years of silvicultural forestry experience
- An understanding of working with independent contractors in
planting, spraying, thinning, hardwood slashing
- Effective administrative experience to assure logistics,
paperwork, and communications are effectively completed
- Ability to work and operate independently, using sound
judgement to make decisions, while juggling multiple competing
tasks and demands
- The ability to use cellular apps, maps, compass, and Avenza for
navigation to the woods and in the woods while working on
units
- Experience with ArcGIS, GPS, and Forest Information System
(FIS)
- Familiarity with SFI standards

- Salary Range: Min $63,500 - Mid $76,200 - Max $88,900
- Other compensation includes bonuses, profit-sharing, employer
