Job Description This Respiratory Therapist RRT position is
considered full-time and will work Friday & Saturday nights,
7pm-7am. The weekend option RRT role offers a 20% shift
differential to your base rate. Purpose: The Respiratory Therapist
RRT will perform all facets of respiratory therapy on inpatients
and outpatients as prescribed by the physician and following
departmental policies and procedures. Responsibilities: - Assesses
various bedside pulmonary function parameters according to
departmental and infection control policies for spirometry (FVC,
FEV-1) or mechanics (VC, PI Max, VE). - Actively practice behaviors

harm for patients, as appropriate. - Evaluates patient response to
therapy (noting unusual situations, adverse reactions, effects, or
conditions), and recommends treatment modifications when indicated.
- Administers and monitors oxygen and humidification (heated,
non-heated) systems according to departmental and infection control
policies. - Performs apnea studies and calculates peep studies,
mechanical ventilation during transport and airway maintenance
including suctioning, monitoring ET cuff pressure and tube
placement; adjusts as needed. - Administers and manages mechanical
ventilation per department ventilation protocol and policies. -
Obtains and analyzes arterial blood specimens (to include result
reporting) according to departmental and infection control policies
for arterial sampling (radial, brachial, femoral, capillary,
lines). - Administers aerosolized medications, NSS, or sterile H2O
as specified in departmental and infection control policies for
aerosol (small volume nebulizers) treatment, metered-dose inhaler
(MDI) treatment or induced sputum. - Provides coverage for Labor
and Delivery for scheduled routine C-sections without complications
for the purpose of performing neonatal intubation in the absence of
a Pediatrician (Lycoming campus employees only). - Pulmonary
Function Lab Only: Administers pulmonary function testing to
include simple spirometry, diffusing capacity, lung volume
maneuvers, methacholine challenge and plethysmogrophy. Soldiers &
Sailors Memorial Hospital Only: Performs EKG's, EEG's, Holter
monitor tests, cardiac stress tests, sleep studies and pulmonary
function testing. Also provides home visits for pulmonary patients
felt to be at high risk for readmission. - Assesses breath sounds
and monitors patient's hemodynamics to include SVO2, blood
pressure, heart rate, cardiac index, and cardiac output. - Graduate
of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy
training program. - Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or
Applied Science required (Bachelor's preferred) or grandfathered
through the registry as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. - No
experience required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
required. - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the
National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required within one year
of hire. - Temporary Practice Permit will be accepted for a period
of 90 days. - Therapists who receive their RRT credential from the
NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification
under the NBRC requirements. - Performing pulmonary function
testing requires credentialing by the National Board of Respiratory
Therapy (NBRC) as a minimum CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function
Technologist). - Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) -
Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners
(RCP) - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Act 31 Child Abuse
